Deep Tissue massage is aimed at the deeper layers of muscles in the body and focuses on realigning muscles and connective tissue. Deep Tissue massage techniques are very similar to Holistic (Swedish) massage but the techniques tend to be slower and the pressure is more intense in order to focus on areas of pain and tension. The therapist aims to release chronic muscle tension or knots. Deep Tissue massage works by physically breaking down adhesions (bands of painful and rigid tissue) caused by an injury or muslce tension to relieve pain and restore to normal movement. Adhesions can block circulation and can cause pain, limited movement and inflammation.

Deep Tissue massage is not painful but you may find it abit more uncomfortable then Holistic massage. If you are looking for relaxation then Holistic massage is more suited to you.

Many clients ask for more pressure as they assume that more pressure will achieve faster results and all their knots will be gone in a hour. This is not the case. Undoing chronic knots and tension that has been built up over a lifetime is best achieved by integrating an exercise program, postural and movement exercises, relaxation techniques and a regular massage program.
